IES Branches 2020

UPSC conducts the IES Exam to recruit candidates for engineering positions for the various department working under the Government of India.

Indian Engineering Services (IES) exam, also known as Engineering Services Examination (ESE), is a national level recruitment exam organized by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

The Engineering Services Examination is conducted for four branches of engineering namely:

Every competitive exam has some criteria and you have to fulfill the basic requirements to allow to take the test.

You need to be familiar with the essential factors before making the necessary arrangements for an exam like IES. 

Nationality 

An IES 2020 Applicant must be either: 

  • a citizen of India, or 
  • a subject of Nepal, or 
  • a subject of Bhutan, or 
  • a Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or 
  • a person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, The United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, and Ethiopia or from Vietnam with the intention of permanently setting in India.

Provided that the candidates belonging to categories (2), (3), (4) and (5) produce a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India at the time of final allotment.

IES Age Limit 

  • IES/ ESE aspirants must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on January 1, 2020.
  • In other words, they must have been born not earlier than January 2, 1990, and not later than January 1, 1999.  
  • Government servants and reserved category candidates will be given relaxation in upper age limit

IES Educational Qualification Requirements

  • Candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in the field of engineering or equivalent from a recognized University.

Physical Standards 

  • You must be physically fit as per the standards defined by exam authority for admission to Engineering Services Examination 2020.

IES 2020 Online Application Form

The IES 2020 notification gazette came out on 25th September 2019 just like the previous year. 

IES Application Form 2020 was made available from September 25 – October 15, 2019. Candidates filled the application form in online mode only at upsc.gov.in.

You have to follow the given steps to register themselves for ESE 2020 exam:

IES Application Form Guidelines

  • Visit the UPSC official website: upsc.gov.in
  • Enter your name, date of birth, email ID, mobile number, and other personal details.
  • Provide your preferred exam centers and your engineering core branch.
  • Enter your category, communication details, work experience details, etc.
  • You have to upload the scanned images of passport size photograph, signature and photo ID proof in prescribed formats.
  • Now you have to pay IES Registration Fee via online or offline mode.
  • You can pay the fees in cash at any SBI Bank branch or via Debit/Credit Card or SBI Net Banking.
  • The last step is to read the declaration and click on “I agree”.
  • Click on Final Submit and download the filled-in form for future reference.

IES Syllabus 2020 For Prelims & Main

Before starting preparation for the exam, you should have the latest IES Syllabus of Prelims and Main for All Branches.

You should know that both Prelims and Main exam will have two papers each– Paper 1 and Paper 2. IES Prelims Paper 1 is General Studies and Engineering Aptitude which is the same for every candidate.

IES Interview Syllabus

Once a candidate successfully clears the prelims and the mains round, he will be eligible to appear for the interview round. The exam is conducted for a maximum of 200 marks.

Various aspects are tested in the personality test round to assess the candidate for the final selection; some of the points of assessment include:

IES 2020 Exam Pattern

IES 2020 has three stages i.e. Prelims, Main Exam, and Personal Interview. IES Exam Pattern 2020 is defined by Union Public Service Commission. 

IES Preliminary exam is an objective paper whereas IES Main exam is a descriptive paper. You have to clear prelims to appear for the Main examination.

After qualifying the main exam, you will proceed to the personality test also known as Interview round. 

Both the sections of the written test cover the entire syllabus of relevant engineering subject (Civil/ Mechanical/ Electrical/ Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering).

IES Admit Card 2020

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the Indian Engineering Services or IES 2020 Admit Card on December 11, 2019. The commission has released the UPSC ESE Admit Card 2020 on the official website of UPSC i.e. upsc.gov.in.

IES Cutoff 2020

IES 2018 Final Cutoff

Final Cutoff is released after the conclusion of the Interview round. The marks are calculated out of 1300 marks.

IES 2020 Selection Procedure

The two-staged IES Selection Procedure adopted by UPSC for IES 2020 exam is:

  • Written Examination
  • Personal Interview

The written exam comprises two exams- Preliminary and Main exam.

  • Candidates are required to qualify the IES cutoff set by the commission.
  • Clearing IES 2020 Prelims is essential to proceed to IES 2020 Main Exam.
  • The main exam is the qualifying criteria for the Personal Interview session.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be called for the final stage i.e. Personality Test.
  • The final results and merit list form the basis of an appointment letter in the name of the candidate.
