Chapter 1: Planning in Sports

Chapter 2 – Sports & Nutrition

For good health, exercise is not enough. One should even have a proper diet in order to cope up with daily requirements and to maintain a balanced routine in life. This chapter will provide the student with the required information on food intake and the nutrition that is required to maintain a balanced diet.

Weight control is also a part of this unit where students are acknowledging the various myths and rumors spreading for the reduction of weight. They have even included the proper method that can help people to lose weight without affecting your normal routine. 

Chapter 3 – Yoga & Lifestyle

Yoga has gained more popularity amongst various groups of people around the world. The main reason is the benefits it provides to the body and prevents us from chronic disease that gets affected due to unhealthy food intake or improper routine of life.

Asanas are considered as one preventive measure for various kinds of health problems like obesity, diabetes, asthma, hypertension, back pain. Each of these issues has particular yoga asanas and detailed information to overcome is mentioned in the chapter. Here is brief information about the solution.

  • Obesity: Vajrasana, Hastasana, Trikonasana, Ardh Matsyendrasana
  • Diabetes: Bhujangasana, Paschimottasana, Pavan Muktasana, Ardh Matsyendrasana
  • Asthma: Sukhasana, Chakrasana, Gomukhasana, Parvatasana, Bhujangasana, Paschimottasana, Matsyasana
  • Hypertension: Tadasana, Vajrasana, Pavan Muktasana, Ardha Chakrasana, Bhujangasana, Shavasana
  • Back Pain: Tadasana, Ardh Matsyendrasana, Vakrasana, Shalabhasana, Bhujangasana

Chapter 4 – Physical Education and Sports for CWSN

It is difficult for physically challenged persons to participate in any of the sports, but there are special rules and regulations for those people so that they can also participate in events that are made for common people.

Here in this chapter, the mere focus is on explaining the concept of disability & disorder, types of disability, and nature for the same. The method to overcome the challenges to participate in even is also explained here along with the list of physical activities for children with a special need.

Disability Etiquettes are also explained in this chapter along with the physical activities that will be advantageous for children with special needs. The main aim is to provide as much physical activities facility for special children.

Chapter 5 – Children & Women in Sports

Exercise and physical activate are meant for everybody and people of different ages can also perform those activities. It serves the purpose of improving motor development and other factors that is affecting it. This chapter does provide exercise guidelines to develop a better growth rate and improve the routine of those people who follow them.

The chapter even includes the method to overcome some of the common postural deformities like knock knee, flat foot, round shoulders, Lordosis, Kyphosis, bow legs, and scoliosis.

The other part of this chapter is completely focusing on women’s issues and the measures to overcome them and excel in sports activities. There is a special consideration (Monarch & Menstrual Dysfunction) where special care is to be given to female sports personalities.

Apart from this, there is an important phase which is the Female Athletes Triad. This is a medication condition in which is observed in physically active female athletes that involve 3 major components ie, eating disorder, Oestoperosis, Amenoria.

Chapter 6 – Test & Measurement in sports

There are certain rules and regulation that a student should follow to play a game and here are some of those important points that need to be considered while playing those sports:

  • Motor Fitness Test – For running and exercise test there is a certain standard that an athlete should pass to qualify the fitness level like 50m Standing Start, 600m Run/Walk, Sit & Reach, Partial Curl Up, Push Ups (Boys), Modified Push-Ups (Girls), Standing Broad Jump, Agility – 4×10 M Shuttle Run.
  • General Motor Fitness – Barrow three-item general motor ability (Standing Broad Jump, Zig Zag Run, Medicine Ball Put – For Boys: 03 Kg & For Girls: 01 Kg)
  • Measurement of Cardio-Vascular Fitness – There are some of the tests that need to be passed before qualifying for any sport and some of them are Harvard Step Test and Rockport Test
  • Computation of Fitness Index: (Duration of the Exercise in Seconds x 100)/(5.5 x Pulse count of 1-1.5 Min after Exercise)
  • Rikli & Jones – This is one of the fitness tests that apply for Senior Citizen and other test details are as shown below. Other information for the test is mentioned in the chapter that can be referred to by the students.
  • Chair Stand Test for lower body strength
  • Arm Curl Test for upper body strength
  • Chair Sit & Reach Test for lower body flexibility
  • Back Scratch Test for upper body flexibility
  • Eight Foot Up & Go Test for agility
  • Six Minute Walk Test for Aerobic Endurance

 Chapter 7 – Physiology & Injuries in Sports

If there are sport and hard work then there will be injury and hardship. The main thing to be considered is to overcome those injuries and get back to the game. Here in this chapter, we are focusing our attention on those physiological factors that determine the composition of physical fitness.

This chapter provides attention to those health issues which play an important while playing sports. The effects of exercise on the human body are more likely related to the cardiorespiratory system, muscular system, and injuries that happen due to aging.

There other kinds of injuries that can be encountered while playing posts like Tissue Injuries 🙁 Abrasion, Contusion, Laceration, Incision, Sprain & Strain), Bone & Joint Injuries: (Dislocation, Fractures: Stress Fracture, Green Stick, Communicated, Transverse Oblique & Impacted) Causes, Prevention& treatment.

Chapter 8 – Biomechanics & Sports

Biomechanics in sports is explained in this chapter ad major focus is provided to the type of movements that affect the nature of the human body. Newton’s Law of Motion & its application in sports is also applicable in this chapter which even includes the theory of friction in sports. 

Chapter 9 – Psychology & Sports

Personality; its definition & types – Trait & Types (Sheldon & Jung Classification) & Big Five Theory, Motivation, its type & techniques, Exercise Adherence; Reasons to Exercise, Benefits of Exercise, Strategies for Enhancing Adherence to Exercise

Chapter 10 – Training in Sports

Strength Building and strategies to improve stamina for better performance in sports are explained in this chapter. There are various types of training that will increase the ability of any sportsperson to break their barrier so that they can do much better.
