UGC NET Exam Pattern

NTA organizes the UGC NET every year and this year as well, the exam will be conducted between 2nd May 2021 to 17th May 2021.

UGC NET, conducted by NTA, consists of two papers – Paper 1 and Paper 2 which are conducted successively. Although the total time given for the papers is 3 hours, candidates are free to finish the paper according to their own timelines.

Basic Introduction

You should know that UGC NET Exam is a fully Computer Based Test. The number of questions asked in Paper 1 is 50 while the number of questions asked in Paper 2 is 100. All the questions are based on multiple choice answers.

For every correct answer, you will score 2 marks and there is no negative marking for an incorrect answer. Of late there has been a little change in the UGC NET exam pattern 2019 but no changes are expected in the UGC NET exam pattern for 2020. 

Exclusive UGC NET Exam Pattern 2021

UGC NET in the year 2021 will be conducted online like in previous years. A desktop with pre-installed software for the exam will be provided to every candidate. Before starting the test, check whether the system and mouse are working properly, and later you do not face any problem while the test is running.

UGC NET: Mode of Exam

  • UGC NET will be conducted in Online mode.
  • Each candidate will be allocated a desktop with pre-installed software specially created for the examination.
  • Make sure to check that the system and the mouse is working properly before the exam commences. 

Nature of Questions in UGC NET Exam

  • The questions in both the papers will be objective in nature.
  • This means all the questions in UGC NET 2021 will be of Multiple Choice type (MCQs).
  • The question will have 4 options, candidates must select the most appropriate answer.

Total Number of Questions in UGC NET 2021

  • UGC NET 2021 will have a total of 150 multiple-choice questions.
  • Paper 1 will have 50 questions and Paper 2 will have 100 questions.
  • There is No Restriction to move to and fro among the Papers.
  • All the questions are compulsory to attempt.

Exclusive UGC NET Exam Pattern for Paper 2

UGC NET Paper 2 Exam Pattern will be exclusively on the subject-wise paper as chosen by the candidate.

Although paper 2 is based on the individual subjects, the nature of the paper will be objective or multiple-choice questions (MCQs).

There are 101 subjects included in paper 2 for NTA UGC NET. Candidates will have to select one subject for the exam as their preferred choice, mostly the subject in their post-graduation.

Important Points about UGC NET Paper 2 Exam Pattern

  • For each correct response, the candidate will get 2 marks.
  •  There is no negative marking for an incorrect response.
  • No marks will be given for questions Unanswered/ Marked for Review.
  • If a question is found to be incorrect/ambiguous during the key challenge, only those candidates who have attempted the question and chosen one of the correct answers would be given the credit. Only for dropped question(s), if any, marks will be given to all the candidates.

Must-Read UGC NET Marking Scheme 2021

You should know that a uniform marking in the exam is followed i.e. for both Paper 1 and 2, each correct answer will fetch you 2 marks.

  • As per the revised exam pattern of the UGC NET exam, there is no negative marking for incorrect answers.
  • Hence, instead of skipping a question, one can use their calculated guess and mark the answer.
