### Chapter 1 Real Numbers

In chapter 1 of class 10, you will learn real numbers and irrational numbers. In the starting section, you will know about the Euclid’s Division Lemma which states that “Given positive integers a and b, there exist unique integers q and r satisfying a = bq + r, 0≤r<b”.

The following pointers provide an overview of the topics that are covered in depth in this particular chapter –

- Revision of the fundamentals of Real Numbers
- Introduction to the properties of positive integers
- Euclid’s Division Lemma
- The Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic
- Revision of Irrational Numbers
- Revision of Rational Numbers
- Decimal Expansion of Real Numbers

### Chapter 2 Polynomials

Polynomials is the expression consisting of variables (indeterminate) and coefficients. It involves various the operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and non-negative integer exponents of variables.

Here you will learn the definition of degree of the polynomial, linear polynomial, quadratic polynomial and cubic polynomial. This chapter has a total of 4 exercises, including optional exercise.

### Chapter 3 Pair of Linear Equations in Two Variables

In this chapter, you will know about the equations having two unknowns and its corresponding solution techniques to get the exact results.

An equation which can be put in the form ax + by + c = 0, where a, b and c are real numbers, and a and b are not both zero, is called a linear equation in two variables x and y.

Here you will also know the fact that a solution of such an equation is a pair of values, one for x and the other for y, which makes the two sides of the equation equal.

This chapter has a total of 7 exercises, and in these exercises, different methods of solving the pair of linear equations are described.

### Chapter 4 Quadratic Equations

Here you will learn about know the standard form of writing a quadratic equation. You will find the method of solving the quadratic equation through the factorisation method and completing the square method.

In the end section of the chapter, you can know the nature of roots which states that a quadratic equation ax² + bx + c = 0 has

- Two distinct real roots, if b² – 4ac > 0
- Two equal roots, if b² – 4ac = 0
- No real roots, if b² – 4ac < 0

### Chapter 5 Arithmetic Progressions

This is one of the important chapter for CBSE Class 10 Maths. Here you will find a new topic that is Arithmetic Progression, i.e. AP.

A sequence of numbers is called an Arithmetic progression if the difference between any two consecutive terms is always the same.

Here you can learn the representation of a situation in the form of AP, finding the first term and difference of an AP, finding out whether a series is AP or not.

You have to find out the nth term of an AP by using the following formula;

- a
_{n }= a + (n-1) d

### Chapter 6 Triangles

In chapter 6 of class 10 CBSE maths, students will study about the condition for the similarity of two triangles and theorems related to the similarity of triangles. After that, the areas of similar triangles is explained with a theorem.

At the end section of the chapter, you will learn the Pythagoras Theorem and converse of Pythagoras Theorem is described.

### Chapter 7 Coordinate Geometry

In the Coordinate Geometry chapter, you will come to know the techniques to find the distance between two points whose coordinates are given and to find the area of the triangle formed by three given points.

Along with this, you will know the process to find the coordinates of the point which divides a line segment joining two given points in a given ratio.

For this students will get introduced to,

- Distance Formula,
- Section Formula,
- Area of a Triangle in this chapter.

### Chapter 8 Introduction to Trigonometry

Here you will learn Trigonometry. It covers the ratios of a right triangle with respect to its acute angles, called trigonometric ratios of the angles.

You will also find the definition of the trigonometric ratios for angles of 00 and 900. In the end section, students will know to calculate trigonometric ratios for some specific angles and establish some identities involving these ratios, called trigonometric identities.

### Chapter 9 Some Applications of Trigonometry

It covers the advanced topic of the previous chapter. It is used in geography, navigation, construction of maps, determining the position of an island in relation to the longitudes and latitudes.

You will also know the use of trigonometry to find the heights and distances of various objects, without actually measuring them.

### Chapter 10 Circles

You have already studied about a circle and various terms related to a circle like a diameter, segment, arc etc.

Here, you have to study the different situations that arise when a circle and a line are given in a plane.

### Chapter 11 Constructions

In this chapter consist of a total of 2 exercises. Constructions are the technique to draw different kinds of lines and shapes in geometry with a compass and a straightedge (or ruler), without the measurement of lengths or angles.

Here you have to use compasses to draw arcs and circles, straightedges and rulers are used to draw lines and straight angles

Whatever students have learned about construction in earlier classes will also help you to understand the topic.

Here you will study how to divide a line segment, the construction of tangents to a circle, Method and steps for construction.

This chapter comprises the concepts of perimeter and area of a circle. Here you will learn how to find the area of sector and segment of a circular region.

You will also know to find the areas of some combinations of plane figures involving circles or their parts.

### Chapter 13 Surface Areas and Volumes

Here you will learn about the surface area of an object formed by combining any two of the basic solids, i.e. cuboid, cone, cylinder, sphere and hemisphere.

You will also learn to find the volume of objects formed by combining any two of a cuboid, cone, cylinder, sphere and hemisphere.

### Chapter 14 Statistics

Here you have to study the numerical representation of ungrouped data to grouped data and finding the Mean, Mode and Median.

You will also know the concept of cumulative frequency, cumulative frequency distribution, and how to draw cumulative frequency curves will be explained.

### Chapter 15 Probability

This is the last chapter of Class 10 Maths. Probability is the chance of an event happening. It is a numerical description of how likely an event is to happen or how likely it is that a proposition is right.

In Probability, you will learn the theoretical approach of probability, the difference between experimental probability and theoretical probability.
