RS Aggarwal Solutions Class 7 Maths Chapter 6 Ex 6.2 – Overview

Multiplication of Algebraic Expressions

In this exercise, you will learn about the questions related to the multiplication between the Algebraic Expressions, which consist of one or more variables and one or more constants along with the use of operations like ( +, -, ÷, × ). These three things are mandatorily required to form Algebraic Expressions. Eg: 5x + 7

Hence, the value of the Algebraic Expressions is never fixed and will always change according to the value we put in the place of the variables. Also, when we use the equals to, =  sign, then we call it the Algebraic Equation which is further solved to find the value of the unknown variables.

Explanation Of Use Of Brackets

In any algebraic expressions, you must simplify any brackets you see. Whenever there, is no bracket used in the algebraic expression, then you need to go according to the BODMAS RULE. First, you need to solve the value for division and multiplication and then you can go ahead with solving the expressions having the addition and the subtraction operation.
Eg: 3x + 2
  • If the value of x is equivalent to 2, then the entire value of the algebraic expressions would become 8.
  • If in the above expression, the value of x is equivalent to 4, then the entire value of the algebraic expressions would become 14 and that would carry on.
If we take an expression, 3 (x + 2)

  • putting x = 2 in the above expression, we got 12 as the final value of the entire expression.
  • putting x = 4 in the above expression, we got 18 as the final value of the entire expression.
Hence, the placement of the bracket in the algebraic expression plays an extremely vital role.

Terms Used In Algebra

Here are the important terms used in this exercise:

1. Variable – The unknown expressions or quantities, whose value needs to be obtained after solving the question in the given algebraic expressions. It can be denoted by either letters, symbols, terms, etc like p, q, r, a, t, w, x, y, z, and more.

2. Coefficient –  The value attached to the variable in specific algebraic expressions. For example – 4x, where 4 is the coefficient of the variable x.

3. Monomial – The algebraic expression having only one term. For example – 2x, 5x, 6x, 9y, 3z, 4a, 6b, 7d, and much more like this.

4. Binomial – The algebraic expression having only two terms. For example – 2x + 2, 5x + z, 6x + a, 9y + 7, 3z + w, 4a – 8, 6b + 1, 7d + y and much more like this.

5. Trinomial – The algebraic expression having only three terms. For example – 5x² + 5x + 1, 3x² + 7x + 2, and much more like this.
