**Multiplication of Algebraic Expression**

There are two simple rules in the multiplication of algebraic expression:

(i) The product of two factors with like signs is positive & the product of two factors with unlike signs is negative.

(ii) If x is a variable & m, n are positive integers, then (xᵐ × xⁿ) = x^{m+n}

It means the product of their numerical coefficients & the product of their literal coefficients. When two monomials are multiplied, initially multiply the coefficients, & then multiply the variable terms.

As per the power of literal quantities, we can express, m^{2} = m × m & m^{3} = m × m × m. Here, m^{2} & m^{3} both are monomials. Thus, multiplication of m^{2} & m^{3 }= m^{2} × m^{3}

= (m × m) × (m × m × m)

= m × m × m × m × m

= m^{5}
