Important Definition for RS Aggarwal Class 8 Maths Chapter 1 Ex 1.1 Solutions

  • Closure Properties Of Whole Numbers

The students will study how whole numbers pass in addition & multiplication but not in subtraction & division. The Whole numbers come under addition, subtraction & multiplication but not under division.

  • Associative Property Of Rational Numbers

The addition is associated with rational numbers. Thus, for any 3 given rational numbers a, b, and c, a + (b + c) = (a + b) + c.

Subtraction is not unified to rational numbers.

Multiplication is a companion to rational numbers. Thus, for any 3 given rational numbers a, b, and c, a × (b × c) = (a × b) × c.

The division is not unified for rational numbers.

  • Closure of assets rational number

The rational numbers are close. Thus, the product of any 2 rational numbers a & b, a b is also a rational number. The rational number is closed by subtraction. The difference a-b, of any two rational numbers a & b is also a rational number.

After assessing the product, we find that the rational numbers are closed with multiplication. i.e for any 2 rational numbers a and b, × b is also a rational number but the rational number does not stop for the division.

  • Reciprocal

A reciprocal is one of a pair of numbers that equal 1 when multiplied together. If you decrease the number to a fraction, you will find the reciprocal is a matter of transposing the numerator & the denominator.

  • Distributivity of multiplication over addition for rational numbers

The distributivity property of multiplication over addition is applied if you multiply a value by a sum.

For instance:- if you want to multiply 5 by the sum of 10 + 3

So, you need to first multiply every added by 5. This is called distributing the 5 & then you can add the products.

The multiplication of 5(10) & 5(3) will be done before you add.

5(10) + 5(3) = 50 + 15 = 65
