RS Aggarwal Solutions Class 9 Maths Chapter 18 Mean Median and Mode of Ungrouped Data – Overview

To cover Chapter 18 of RS Aggarwal Solutions Class 9 Maths, you must cover the following important topics.

  • There are mainly 2 types of data, i.e., Primary and secondary.
  1. Primary Data: Data was collected after conducting surveys, interviews, and extensive research. These data are first-hand sources.
  2. Secondary Data: Data collected by someone other than the user.
  • You can present the data in two ways, i.e., ungrouped and grouped.
  1. Ungrouped data: Data that is not categorized after the collection is called ungrouped data. Eg:

    The height of 5 students is 158,160,170,166,166. Find the range of the data given.

    Solution:

    Range = Highest number – lowest number = 170-158 = 12

  2. Grouped data: Data that is organized in the form of a distribution table is known as Grouped Data. Eg:

  • The Concept Of Grouped Data
  1. Class Intervals: 10-20, 20-30, 30-40, and so on are the class intervals.
  2. Lower Limit: It is the smallest number in the class interval. Eg: 10-20, 20 in 20-30.
  3. Upper Limit: It is the greatest number in the class interval is called the upper limit. Eg: 20 in 10-20, 30 in 20-30.
  4. Class size: The difference between the smallest and the greatest number in the class interval. Eg: Class interval in 19.5 – 9.5 = 19.5 – 9.5 = 10.
  5. Classmark: It is the midpoint between the class interval.

    Classmark = Lower limit + Upper limit/2

  • Measures OF Central Tendency
  1. Mean: The average of all the observations, denoted by x̄.

    x̄ = x1 + x2 + x3 +…xn/n (ungrouped data)

    x̄ = x1f1 + x2f2 +….xnfn/f1 + f2 + … + fn (grouped data).

  2. Median: The middlemost value from the given set of observations.

Median = (n+1)/2nd observation value (if n is odd).

Median = n/2th and (n/2 + 1)th observation value (if n is even).

3. Mode: The observation that has the maximum frequency.
