RS Aggarwal Solutions Class 7 Maths Chapter 3 Ex 3.2 – Overview

In this exercise, there is a total of 11 questions, out of which 8 questions are based on the “Addition of decimals” and the remaining three are based on the “Subtraction of decimals”.

The decimal number represents the number with more precision in comparison with the whole numbers or integers. The dot between the numbers is referred to as the decimal point.

Addition Of Decimals

When we add decimals, we bring all the decimal points together such that the whole number parts and the decimal number parts get lined up and add them.

  • Steps To Add Decimals
  1. Bring all the numbers in vertical order. This will bring all the decimal points on a vertical line.
  2. Add the extra zeros on the right side of the given number to make sure that all the numbers are having the same number of digits at one right side of the decimal place.
  3. Add the numbers the same way you used to add the whole numbers.

Subtraction Of Decimals

“Subtraction of decimals” is similar to the additions of decimals. You have to line up all the decimals in vertical order. Then add extra zeros on the right side of the decimal number and then subtract in the downward order.

  • Steps To Subtract Decimals
  1. Bring all the numbers in one line in vertical order. This will bring all the decimal points together to lie straight on a vertical line.
  2. Add the extra zeros on the right side to the decimal number which will make all the numbers even in size i.e., an equal number of digits on the right side of the decimal number.
  3. Subtract all those numbers like you would do for the whole number.
