SECTION – I
QIA a) Explain the distinctive features of Polymerization Reaction Engineering.
b) Discuss the distinction between addition polymerization V s condensation polymerization. 
Q2) a) Discuss all the mechanism steps to be used in Free radical polymerization with one suitable example. 
b) Derive the necessary equation of the rate of Initiation @ri) in terms of Initiator concentration [I]. 
Q3) Styrene is polymerized in batch reactor at 60oC with the free radical initiator. The initial concentration of styrene is 8.35 gmole/lit, and the concentration of initiator is kept constant at 0.04 gmole/lit. Assume termination takes place only by combination. The rate constant are as KQ = 3* 10_6 sec1, Kp = 176 lit/gmole. Sec, Kc = 3.6* 10U lit/gmole. Sec, f = 0.6 the volume of the reactor filled by the reacting system is 3760 lit. 
For a reaction time of 180 min, compute the following:
a) The percentage of the styrene polymerized,
b) The number average molecular weight.
Q4) a) Explain the following quantities to be used in the Characterization of Long Chain Molecules : 
i) Weight Fraction,
ii) First moment of Pj’s
iii) Number Average degree of Polymerization.
iv) Weight Average Degree of Polymerization
v) Number Average Molecular Weight
vi) Weight Average Molecular Weight.
b) Find the Polydispersity Index of the mixture composed of 20 molecules of 1000 monomer lengths and 380 molecules of I monomer lengths.
