IIT Patna campus to be inaugurated on July 25 by PM Modi

New Delhi: The brand new campus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) at Patna is all set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 25, 2015. Established in 2008, IIT Patna is currently operating from its temporary campus at the Navin Government Polytechnic in Patliputra colony in Patna.

IIT Patna’s permanent campus is sprawled across 500 acres and is situated at Bihta, 35 km from Patna. After the inauguration, IIT Patna will start functioning from its newly built campus.

The new academic session at IIT Patna will flag off from July 22 but the classes in the institute will commence from July 26, 2015.

IIT Patna currently offers following programs:

  • B.Tech in 5 Departments: Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Chemistry.
  • M.Tech in 8 Multi-disciplinary Streams: Mechatronics, Mathematics & Computing, Nano Science & Technology, Computer Science and Engineering, Communication System  Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, and Materials Science and Engineering.
  •  PhD in 10 Departments: Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil & Environmental Engineering, Chemical & Biochemical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Humanities and Social Sciences.

The institute also has 3 Centres of Excellence: Centre for Energy and Environment, Centre for Advanced Systems Engineering, and Centre for Strategic Materials. Last year, IIT Patna had 530 B.Tech students, 85 M.Tech students and 140 PhD students.
