A survey conducted by Pluggd.in which shows some very exciting results. Given that Pluggd.in readers are among India’s early adopters, tech savvy community, the last piece of data is quite exciting for ebook industry. That is, if priced well, ebooks actually stand a chance and unlike the US market, which adopted ebooks for various other reasons than price, India still remains the price sensitive market.

The survey had following results –

  1. 45% of them prefer physical copies only.
  2. 20% of them prefer eBooks only.

And the most of important pieces i.e 35% of them will switch from physical to eBooks editions, if we provide major discounts. So, if priced well, ebooks actually stands a chance and unlike the US market, which adopted eBooks for various reason than price, India shall still remains the price sensitive market.

Looking at the same KopyKitab is bringing up ebook rental services. With this students and professionals may get the ebooks at upto 70% discount of book MRP. Students would be able to read the books online at present, but very soon KopyKitab is coming up with downloadable solutions too.
