 1.  Attempt any four parts of the following :

(a) Discuss the importance of environmental studies.

What is meant by environmental pollution ? Discuss the requirement of a non-polluted environment.

(b) What do you mean by natural resources? Enumerate the various natural resources.

(c) Classity the atmosphere on the basis of temperature variation. State main activities taking place in each of them.

(d) Discuss the major world food problems.

How is undernourishment different from malnouri shment?

(e) What do you mean by water-logging and salination ? What are their causes and how do they influence the agricultural yields ? Suggest measures to minimise them.

(f) Write short note on soil erosion and desertification.

 

2.  Attempt any two of the following :     

(a) What is meant by structure of an ecosystem? Explain the various components of an ecosystem structure. Discuss the functions of an ecosystem also.

(b) What is meant by ‘flow of energy’ in an ecosystem ? What is its importance for ecosystems.

(c) Write the short notes on :

(i) Pond or lake ecosystem

(ii) Forest ecosystem.

 

3.  Attempt any two parts of the following :

(a) What is meant by ‘biodiversity’? What is its concept? Explain the three hierarchical levels of biodiversity.

(b) What do you mean by value of biodiversity ? Explain the consumptive use of productive use of a biodiversity.

(c) Write the short notes on :

(i) Habitat loss

(ii) Endangered and endemic species of India.

(iii) Man-wildlife conflict

(iv) Biodiversity treaty.

 

4.  Attempt any two parts of the following :

(a) What do you understand by water pollution ? Suggest various remedial and control measures to minimize water pollution.

(b)   Briefly describe the idea of ‘solid waste management’ stating suitable examples. Distinguish between the incineration and composting methods of solid waste disposal.

(c) Explain four major air pollutants and their consequences.

 

5.  Attempt any four parts of the following :

(a) Write the aims and objectives of ‘Family Welfare Programmes’. Discuss their implementation details.

(b) The industrial developments have caused positive as well as negative effects on human health – comment.

(c) Describe the role of information technology in favour of environmental studies. Briefly explain the GIS and remote sensing techniques in this regard.

(d) Explain the problems associated with ozone layer depletion.

(e) Discuss in brief, the salient features of the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act 1981.

(f)  Write short note on population explosion.
