Textbook Of Algae

The book is designed to provide a comprehensive and up-to-date account of the occurrence, structure, reproduction, phylogeny and classification of algae in a simple and lucid form. While the general account of the subject has been dealt with in detail, due attention has also been given to the life cycles of a few common genera; characteristic features of some important forms; applied aspects; algae and environment; and protocol for identification, culture and cultivation of algae. Emphasis has been given on some recent uses of algae, like algae as a source of hydrogen and in the extraction of biodiesel.

An attempt has been made to cover the syllabi of various universities and particularly the one recently recommended by the University Grants Commission.
