PREFACE In modern cities and towns of India people do not have open space for gardening. But they have love for the plants. By this book I have tried to provide information on method of growing and display of indoor decorative plants especially for interior decoration. Indoor decoration with houseplants has got tremendous importance in the homes of the Indian people. Growing plants inside brings about an intimate and natural association between the man and the plant. In growing plants indoor the people face some problems specially in the starting. Keeping this in view I have made some practical suggestions for growing indoor plants successfully. Though numerous plant species are present, I have mentioned only those species that are most common and easily available. I gratefully acknowledge the assistance and co operation of Dr. B.C. Das and Dr. A.K. Pal, Department of Horticulture, B.C.K.V., W.B. Shri. S.K. Maiti and Dr. S. Mittra-neogi, Calcutta, the enthusiastic plant lover people have given their permission to use me some plantphotographs. I should also like to acknowledge my deep gratitude to Dr. R.G. Maiti and Shri. G.C. Das for their keen interest and constant encouragement in this work.
