Preface to the First Edition
Effective implementation of any curriculum calls for appropriate support material for students as well as for teachers. This book presents the subject in a logical sequence,using simple language and it contains a detailed exposition of the fundamentals. A careful effort has been made to provide a comprehensive coverage of the course to satisfy a variety of backgrounds and interests. Considerable thought has been given to the pedagogy of presentation, to the explanation of various circuits and parameters, to the many illustrative examples worked out in detail and to the review questions at the end of each chapter, with emphasis being laid on the conceptual understanding of the subject matter. The approach to integrate theory with practical and tutorial work would provide the students an opportunity to reinforce their theoretical knowledge. I would like to express my deep gratitude to Dr. D.S. Kumar, Dr. B.B. Bansal and Dr. C.M. Bhatia for their constant support and encouragement.
