Book Summary:

The present book is a small effort to provide information about the chemistry of natural products in a simple way. As academicians in subject of Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry, we find that, there is no single textbook available for the students of pharmacy to get a detailed Chemistry of Natural Products and hence we took this task to provide a one-stop solution to the students of pharmacy regarding natural product chemistry.

The book is written with intention to cover almost all the chemistry related aspects of natural products, and the information of natural products has been provided through scheme of different chapters in simple language. The present book contains eight chapters and each chapter provides systematic information about each class of natural products. The first chapter provides the introductory information about natural products and natural product chemistry. The second chapter contains the concepts of stereochemistry in natural products. The third chapter of the book deals with glycosides which are very therapeutically potent natural products and provides details of important classes of glycosides along with individual examples. The fourth chapter of the book explains about major secondary metabolite alkaloids with important examples. The fifth chapter deals with terpenes. Chapter six deals with Flavonoids and Lignans and chapter seven deals with carotenoids. The eighth chapter is dedicated to discussion on antibiotics as natural product.
