Use objects from the child s immediate surroundings such as beads, marbles, buttons, cups, toothpicks, ice-cream sticks, blocks, fruits, and biscuits. Use educational aids, such as punch cards, picture cards, dominoes, ash cards, and number books. Use story sequences, activity songs, and number rhymes to encourage and reinforce learning. Hold out or point to and count out aloud the number of objects that you pass around the class. At home, the child can participate in activities such as counting clothes that have to be ironed. Reinforce ordinality by asking the child to call out rst, second, third of a series. For instance, s he can keep crayons back in the box as you call out, blue goes in rst, red goes in second Use location words such as between, next to, above, below, beside, and so on. Following a sorting and classi cation activity, ask the child to call out why the objects are same or different. Use words like taller than, shorter than, bigger than, smaller than, less than, more than, and so on. The child can observe objects and call out why they are similar. For instance, s he could point out the similarity between a bird and a bat two wings .
