Extension Strategies For Managing Agricultural Enterprises And Entrepreneurship
About this eBook
PREFACE The kind, nature and application of entrepreneurship in Indian agriculture are evolving very fast although it has got a skewed and erratic geo-economical distribution in India. In the transforming agriculture entrepreneurship building process through propagating investments in agri-business, agri-services and market intelligence has become the latest trend. The decline of contributions of Indian Agriculture to the National GDP 22 per cent and a conspicuous stagnation of the growth rate in agriculture 1.6 per cent have made the situation extremely challenging and it is all set for immediately creating agri-business ventures and entrepreneurships in all the three micro, meso and macro level of Indian economy. This would perhaps reduce the economic coercion and social impoverishment of this restless entropy by generating yield, income and livelihood at the grass root level primarily and creating a new fulcrum of market balances. We today are not concerning to per hectare production of rice or millet, rather, we prefer to contemplate, per ha generations livelihood, jobs and, of course, per capita value of return every unit of time from the same unit of area. So, we need to revamp and restructure our placid and stale agriculture into a roaring tiger of entrepreneurship for a much-needed evergreen revolution to Indian economy beyond her present bleak status we are confronting with. The areas of challenges are now, howto make farmers of small resources capital into an entrepreneur or to make the timid and traditional farmwomen into a woman entrepreneur managing livelihood generating agri-business and making the entire life redefined. All these are essential interventions with the fact that India's contribution to the value added global agricultural market has been placed to a low plank of contribution which is only 1 - 1 . 5 per cent of the total global market. Unleashing entrepreneurial motivation itself is a synergistic process, imbibing both science and craftsmanship. This kind of approaches has tuned today with the concerning issues like global warming, climate change, natural resource management, nutritional security and gender empowerment as well. So, the present book shall be envisaging the dictum and destiny of evolving extension sciences by cherishing a clear focus for income, livelihood, nutrition and environment management as well as protection wherein entrepreneurship can't be a mechanical device only by any means, rather, it must be flavoring with human values, philanthropic pursuits and methodological innovations. This book has been the outcome of intense academic interactions and structure programmes supported by Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi and thus merits words of eulogy for their contribution.
