Environment, in a broader sense, is referred to as totality of the surroundings, which can influence human beings in diverse ways. Any change in the composition of the environment that directly or indirectly affects the biota is considered pollution. For example, addition of various harmful gases like sulphur dioxide, carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and particulates will cause air pollution; while the contamination of water by organic matter, heavy metals, pesticides and pathogenic micro-organisms will cause water pollution. Even the open dumps of solid wastes; noise and radiation can cause pollution of environment. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) means a business behaving responsibly towards its customers, employees and suppliers, the environment and the wider community.
