PREFACE Extension education, of late, has acquired a prestigious status of professional discipline responsible for initiating technological changes. The ranges of technological areas have expanded from agriculture to almost all aspects affecting human life. Extension uses communication as a tool to motivate changes in behaviour of people which are persuasive in nature. It is gradually incorporating many participatory methods of rural research and extension in order to become more relevant and interactive. Use of appropriate communication tools help in development of new and correct concepts, overcome language barriers, minimize literacy constraints and individual differences. Scientists have been contributing their best in generation and use of various communication tools, but the success of such tools depends on effective understanding and use. Recognizing this aspect, present book is designed to help teachers, scientists and extension workers to understand and use latest communication and extension tools so as to perform their job better. Keeping in view the changing scenario of communication methodologies, faculty needs to develop skills in handling and using computer aided communication methodologies in order to transfer the technologies to rural masses more efficiently. This book is designed to fulfill the imperative need of the hour. The main objective of the book is to sensitize academicians to develop understanding of handling latest communication techniques and to impart practical skills in applications of various methodologies for agricultural and allied education. The book is designed to impart knowledge, inculcate skills and bring about attitudinal changes among academicians through emerging approaches in extension work, concepts and modules in transfer of technologies, participatory extension tools such as PRA, RRA, Socio Economic Analysis Tools, participatory technology development, indigenous technological knowledge, introducing latest communication methods techniques such as teleconferencing, web page designing, e-learning etc. I do hope that the readers would be utilizing extension tools and communication techniques in their situation and would be instrumental for bringing desirable changes in rural masses.
