This includes Histoenzymology, Cell biology, Cytogenetics, Chemical Embryology and now Molecular Biology especially, use of molecular markers in understanding genetic divergence in various crop plant species. He is founder of Botany Department in Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and headed the same for more than two decades. He built a strong school of Plant Reproductive Biology and Crop Productivity. He was elected to the Fellowships of several Academies including Indian National Science Academy, National Academy of Agricultural Sciences and is also recipient of several coveted national and International awards including Rafi Ahmad Kidwai Prize by ICAR, JJ Chinoy Gold Medal, Bir Bal Sawhney Gold Medal,.. The present volume Bio tech n olo gy A New Ap p r o a ch is compiled in his honor and. recounts his contributions in the varied fields of plant biology especially plant reproduction- a treatise written by one of his brilliant students Dr Bhavneet Kaur USA . I had the unique pleasure to work with him closely on several occasions especially after he joined SADTM, now Jaipur National University, Jaipur. As President of Indian Botanical Society we discussed, shared and proposed several novel ideas to promote plant sciences. He is full of devotion, diligence and insurmountable energy to acquire latest knowledge on different aspects of biotechnology. A perusal of various titles comprising this volume shows that they cover Plastid Transformation and its application in Crop Improvement, Tissue culture of Recalcitrant crops, Molecular markers, development in vegetable crops, propagation of bamboos, molecular basis of cold tolerance, plant hormone crosstalk, biotechnological approach for the conservation of orchids, micro satellite and its applications, Markers and Marker assisted selection for genetic improvement of castor, industrial enzymes, plantibodies, etc.. The fifteen articles cover wide varieties of topics. The topics are bound to enthuse the readers and create eagerness to dwell into new information and insights, especially with the speed of new discoveries being made regularly.
