PREFACE Dr. V. K. Mahorkar Dean Agri. , D.I. Director of Extension Education Dr. PDKV, Akola. Poverty and employment generation are the serious problems in India. So to reduce the poverty and to generate employment based on agriculture, horticulture, forestry and engineering, entrepreneurship plays an important role. The winter school aims to address the issues related that would help the participating scientists teachers in updating their technical know how in the area of entrepreneurship development and management. This compendium has been prepared to provide the teaching material to the participants of winter school. It contains the lecture notes delivered by the expert scientists related to advanced entrepreneurship development techniques. The comprehensive contents of this compendium have planned with a definite purpose. Therefore, I am sure that this attempt will go along way in helping farmers, extension workers, students, agricultural scientists, administrators planners and other stake holders of our country and abroad in their efforts for integrated rural development through entrepreneurship development. I am grateful to Dr. V. M. Mayande, Vice-Chancellor, Dr. PDKV, Akola for support and inspiration for conducting this winter school. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi for providing financial assistance and giving this opportunity to conduct the winter school. I congratulate and appreciate the sincere efforts made by Dr. D. M. I hope this compendium will provide a valuable source of information and help to lead further advancement in entrepreneurship development. ABOUT THE BOOK The book entitled Entreprnuership development and Management has been specifically written to serve as a text book to understand entreprnuership development and its management for undergraduate and post-graduate students in agriculture, Home science, Veterinary and Animal Science, Fisheries, Forestry, Food Technology, Dairy Science, Horticulture, Sericulture, Soil Science etc. It shall also serve as handbook in the relevant Government Departments, Banks, Co-opertaives, voluntary and NGOs, KVKs etc. in respect of their extension work especially for entreprnuership development. The pathway of evolution from primitive to feudal system of production, from a land based agriculture to technology driven agriculture and there from to an enterprise making agriculture has got both ups and downs.
