Thus a detailed look throughout the syllabus is very necessary, especially for those who are going to appear IAS 2015 for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>UPSC \u2013 IAS examination is conducted in three phases:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Phase 1:<\/strong> Preliminary Examination or CSAT (<i>Objective Section<\/i>)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Phase 2:<\/strong> Main Examination (<i>Subjective Section<\/i>)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Phase 3:<\/strong> Interview (Vocal Section)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Phase 1: Preliminary Examination \u2013 CSAT <i>Syllabus<\/i>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>CSAT or <b>Civil Services Aptitude Test<\/b> is the Preliminary examination of UPSC, it test the aptitude of examinee to tackle Reasoning and Analytical questions. Consist of two papers, each of 200 marks and two hours of duration and it is compulsory to appear in both.<\/p>\n<p>It is an Objective section, and every wrong attempt will cost you 1\/3<sup>rd<\/sup> marks of the attempted question.<\/p>\n<p>CSAT is just a screening test, thus the marks obtained will not be entertained in your final merit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Syllabus for Paper 1:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Current events (National and International)<\/li>\n<li>History of India<\/li>\n<li>Geography of the world (Physical, Social, Economic)<\/li>\n<li>Indian Polity and Governance-Constitution<\/li>\n<li>Economic and Social Development<\/li>\n<li>General Issues (Environmental Ecology, Bio-Diversity, Climate change etcs.)<\/li>\n<li>General Science<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Syllabus for Paper 2:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Comprehension<\/li>\n<li>Interpersonal Skills<\/li>\n<li>Logical Reasoning and Analytical Ability<\/li>\n<li>Decision making and problem-solving<\/li>\n<li>General mental ability<\/li>\n<li>Basic Numeracy<\/li>\n<li>Data Interpretation<\/li>\n<li>Comprehension Skill (English)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Phase 2:<b> Main Examination <\/b>Syllabus:<\/p>\n<p>This phase will test your academic and intellectual talent in depth. It consists of 9 papers, in which two are qualifying papers of 300 marks each:<\/p>\n<p>I. Any Indian Language<\/p>\n<p>II. English<\/p>\n<p>These two papers just need to qualify which is mandatory and marks obtained will not be considered or counted.<\/p>\n<p>Language for the rest seven papers can be any of the languages mentioned in Eighth Schedule of the constitution or you can opt for English. Rest seven papers are mentioned below, each weighing 250 marks:<\/p>\n<p>III.
