How to Find Research Opportunities as High School Students

Check with your school Many schools have research programs or partnerships with universities or research institutes. Ask your school counselor or science teacher about any opportunities available.

Check online There are many online databases that list research opportunities for high school students. Some examples include the National Science Foundation's Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program and the Student Science Training Program.

Reach out to universities Many universities have summer research programs for high school students. Look up universities in your area and reach out to their science departments to see if they have any programs available.

Attend science fairs Science fairs are a great way to meet researchers and learn about their work. Attend local and regional science fairs and talk to researchers to see if they have any opportunities available.

Volunteer at a lab Contact local labs and ask if they need volunteers. Even if they don't have any research opportunities available, volunteering can still be a great way to learn about the research process.

Join a science club: Joining a science club at your school or in your community can give you access to resources and connections that can help you find research opportunities.

Network Talk to your science teachers, counselors, and anyone else you know who may have connections in the scientific community.
