 1. Attempt any four parts of the following:

(a) Name starch hydrolyzing enzymes and explain the mechanism of action.

(b) Describe the specific features of enzyme reactions.

(c) How do you compare enzymatic transformations with microbial call transformations / process.

(d) Describe the industrial uses of enzymes in various sectors.

(e) What are cofactors? How are they useful? Explain with examples.

(f)  Name microbial protases with their source and applications.

 

2. Attempt any four parts of the following

(a) Describe effect of substrate concentration on rate of enzymatic reaction.

(b) Define unit of enzyme activity with special reference to glucoanylase used for hydrolysis of starch.

(c) Describe solid state fermentation (SSF) for the production of enzymes. What are its advantages?

(d) What are intracellular enzymes? How are they recovered?

(e) Describe purification of enzymes using chromatography.

(f)  Name and explain the mechanism of enzymes used in detergent industry.

 

3. Attempt any two parts of the following:

(a) Define immobilized enzymes. What are the merits of enzyme immobilization by entrapment. Describe any one method widely used for entrapment of enzymes.

(b) What do you understand by cross-linking of the enzymes? When it is useful for practical application?

(c) What do you understand by immobilized cells? Describe any one method of cell immobilization. Describe their applications in industry.

 

4. Attempt any two parts of the following :

(a) Develop the rate equation for immobilized enzyme on non-process support and comment on the value of Km for the system.

(b) What do you understand by Operational Stability of immobilized enzyme (IE) ? Discuss the decay pattern of immobilized enzyme.

(c) Describe the effect of particle diameter on the performance of immobilized enzyme considering internal differential problem.

 

5. Attempt any two parts of the following :

(a) Assuming the Michal is Mentes kinetics for enzyme reaction, develop design equation for a plug flow reactor (PFR) and continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR).

(b) Define effectiveness factor for an immobilized enzyme reactor under pure diffusion limitations? How is it dependent on Thiple modulus.
