(d) Lower the Km value of an enzyme, higher is its substrate affinity – justify.
(e) How enzyme activity is affected by temperature and pH?
(f) Give examples of two fibrous proteins and explain their structures.
2. Attempt any four parts of the following :
(a) Explain how pyruvate is metabolised in presence and absence of air.
(b) Explain one regulatory step of glycolysis and its mechanism.
(c) Write down the irreversible steps of glycolysis.
(d) Define oxidative phosphorylation citing two examples.
(e) Give example of one transketolase and one transaldolase reaction.
(f) Explain Entner – Doudoroff pathway.
3. Attempt any two parts of the following :
(a) Define complex and simple lipids. Briefly outline the degradation process of a triacylglycerol.
(b) Describe fatty acid synthetase complex and synthesis of fatty acyl coenzyme A from acetyl coenzyme A.
(c) Discuss the following :
(i) Glycerol metabolism
(ii) Formation of triacyl glycerol from glycerol and fatty acids.

(a) Describe structures and functions of tRNA and mRNA.
(b) Briefly discuss the process of DNA replication.
(c) Explain the initiation and elongation steps of protein synthesis.
