Note : (1) Attempt all questions.
(2) All questions carry equal marks.
1. Attempt any two of the following :
(a) What is mathematical modelling? Describe in detail how you will model a CSTR?
(b) Describe different types of ideal reactors and explain why they are called ideal reactors ?
(c) What is residence time distribution? Define E,C and F curves.
2. Attempt any two of the following:
(a) How do you broadly classify reactions? Write in detail the factors affecting the reaction rate.
(b) The aqueous reaction A^R+S proceeds as follows : Time, min CA, mol/liter
0 0.1823 36 0.1453 65 0.1216 100 0.1025 160 0.0795 0.0494 and
00 With C4n = 0.1823 mol/liter, C = 0, Cso = 55 mol/liter Find the rate equation for this reaction. 1
(c) Describe in detail how the study of heterogeneous reaction is useful to a bioprocess engineer. Give some reactions in support of your ideas.
3. Attempt any two of the following :
