Why Teachers Day Is Celebrated?
Teachers day is a special day dedicated to teachers and their precious contributions toward one’s life. It commemorates the birth anniversary a great teacher of India
Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. The students of Dr Radhakrishnan wanted to celebrate his birthday when he was serving as a president.
The first Teachers Day was celebrated on
5th September 1962.

We should respect our teachers. Society should support and encourage teachers because of their extraordinary contribution to shaping human society.

National Awards to Teachers
The President of India presents the
National Award to Teachers on 5th September every year. It is done to provide public recognition to meritorious teachers working in primary, middle and secondary schools.
Purpose to give National Teachers Award – To recognise and celebrate the unique contribution of some of the most exceptional teachers in the country. Also, to honour those teachers who have improved school education and enriched the lives of the student.
Consideration for Selection – Total 100 marks are alotted on two criteria. These are,
The objective will carry a weightage of 20, and Performance-Based will carries a weightage of 80 respectively.
National Teachers Awards 2019 – The list of award winners is announced via the official website. These teachers will now be awarded on 5th September 2019.

Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan – Early Life
The visionary teacher Dr Radhakrishnan was born on
5 September in Tiruttani in Andhra Pradesh 1888 into a Telegu Brahmin family. He completed his Masters’ in Philosophy from the University of Madras.
He was a meritorious and a bright student throughout his education.
Then, he had started teacher ship in the University of Mysore and later the University of Calcutta. He was also popular among the students.
Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan – Career
Radhakrishnan had started his career as a teacher and later served as the Vice-Chancellor Andhra University and Banaras Hindu University.
He was also called to take the Chair of Spalding Professor of Eastern Religions in
Oxford University. He had served as the
first Vice President of India (1952 – 1962) and the second president of India (1962 – 1967). He was also the author of
. The Philosophy of Rabindranath Tagore He was responsible for attracting global attention to Indian philosophy.
We have to convey our respect and gratitude to our teachers. We should apply the wisdom our teachers have taught us to make our self a better human being. Also, we should use that knowledge to make this world a better place.
