1. (a) Trace the evolution of Vastuvidya and explain its application in the present day’s set up.

(b) State the various classification of silpis and explain their qualifications and duties.

II.  (a) Briefly explain the basic units of measurements – Hastam, Thalam, Kayam, Padam, Angulam and Yavam. Establish the relations of these measurements.

(b) Draw 9×9 grid of a 18 x 18 m plot and mark the various sutras and the presiding gods in the main eight directions.

 

III. (a) Explain the main methods of soil investigation by observations and conducting tests. State their significances.

(b) Draw neat sketches of various types of towns and state the main features.

IV. (a) Draw neat sketch of the development/planning of an industrial toWn and mark the salient features.

(b) Draw neat sketch of a temple complex (the main diety facing east) and mark the salient features.

 

V. Draw neat sketches of various types of single houses, twin houses and chatussalas (Nalukettu) and mark out the auspicious ones with their names.

VI. Explain the role of the perimeter with respect to yoni, aayam, vyyam, age and suitabilites of various yonis pertaining to rooms, buildings, seats, tanks and wells.

 

VII. State and explain the main materials used in vastu construction and their suitabilities for various elements in construction.

VIII. Explain the main methods/tools used in vastuvidya for analysis of the structures and the elements. State the canons for design of columns, walls, wall plates,basement and rafters.
