10 Important Tips to Get the Most Out of Your College Visit

Plan ahead

Before you visit a college, research it online and make a list of things you want to see and ask about.

Attend an information session

Attend one of the sessions that provide an overview of the school to get a good sense of what the school is all about.

Take a tour

Try to schedule a tour led by a current student, as they can provide a unique perspective on campus life.

Visit the admissions office

If you have any questions about the application process visit the admissions office and speak with an admissions officer.

Attend a class

If possible, sit in on a class in your intended major to get a feel for the academic rigor and teaching style.

Talk to current students

Ask students on campus about their experience at the school, their favorite classes, and their social life.

Check out the facilities

Visit the library, dining halls, athletic facilities, and other important areas on campus to get a sense of the school resources.

Explore the surrounding area

Take a walk around the town or city where the school is located to get a sense of the community and its offerings.

Take notes and photos

Bring a notebook and pen to take notes during your visit, and don’t forget to take photos of the campus and facilities.

Follow up

After your visit, send a thank-you note to anyone you spoke with on campus.
