Top Tips & Tricks for Taking the IELTS

Study the material

Attend IELTS preparation courses, if possible. Preparation courses provide you with IELTS material as well as tips and tricks. If you do not have access to IELTS preparation courses, you can hire a qualified private tutor instead. An English teacher will also help you create a study plan.

Practice until you feel confident

Practice builds up your confidence. For the speaking test, find a friend to practice speaking English. While reading English magazines, practice skimming the lessons for the reading test. Watch movies in the English language every night and surround yourself with English language news and songs to improve your listening skills.

Check out the official IELTS website

The official IELTS website is the best source of information for IELTS candidates. You can read about the rules and regulations of the test, and the test format, and find useful IELTS exam tips and materials such as books, texts, and videos on the website.

There is a test named International

English Language Testing System (IELTS). The result of this test is not a pass or a fail, rather your English is judged between 0 and 9. Based on this many universities give admission and companies give jobs.

There are two types of IELTS exams

IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training. IELTS assesses a candidate on 4 parameters: Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking. A candidate has to prove his proficiency in all 4 areas in 2 hours 45 minutes. The time allotted for each test is: Reading: 60 minutes, Writing: 60 minutes, Speaking: 11 to 14 minutes, Listening: 30 minutes

Tips for the IELTS writing test

While preparing for the writing test, keep in mind that you should not write too much even if you have a thousand thoughts in your mind. Time management is the most important part of the IELTS exam and you should always keep in mind that you have to complete it on time.

Tips for the IELTS speaking test

Focus on fluency when speaking, because that's exactly what you'll be judged on. If you think too much about vocabulary, you may start to stutter in the middle of a conversation. So don't panic, but try to keep the conversation going with the flow.
