About this eBook

Preface to the Second Edition There are many books available on the subject of Engineering Drawing. They explain the theory of engineering drawing in an elaborate way. But they can not motivate and help the students to solve the problems themselves. This book is designed to motivate and help the students for solving the problems on their own this book is a necessary supplement to the engineering drawing textbooks. This book would be useful for teachers to guide students. Practice is the most important part of Engineering Drawing. This book is completely dedicated to practice in Engineering Drawing. No doubt, the students draw the sheets in their practical classes for this purpose. But there they have to solve hard problems directly. This is a difficult task for them when they are still learning the concept. So sometimes they tend to copy the figures rather than solving the problems themselves. This book gives the problems of different chapters starting from simplest to problems of increasing difficulty. The initial tutorials give the grids for solving small problems for quick practice to develop understanding of the concept. The problems in this book may be solved by the students when a particular chapter is being taught in the class or during their preparation time before examinations. This will increase their skill, understanding and confidence to a great extent. Thus, it will improve their examination results also. All the best to the students Make best use of the book designed exclusively for you.

PRACTICE FOR LETTERING
Lettering is used for writing notes, dimensions, titles and details in title block. Good lettering improves appearance and usefulness of the sheet. Lettering should be in plain and simple style. It should be clear, legible and uniform. In engineering, we generally use upright not slant , single stroke not bold letters only. Lettering should be done freehand to save time. Thus a student should know the correct method of lettering and should practice it. This is what this chapter is designed for The Bureau of Indian Standards BIS has given certain guidelines for lettering in the Indian Standard SP 46. Different lettering heights recommended are 2.5 mm, 5 mm, 7 mm, 10 mm, etc. Out of these, 2.5 mm is generally used for writing notes and dimensions, while 5 mm for subtitles and others for titles. We will practice 2.5 mm, 5 mm and 7 mm sizes here. The letters are printed faint. Overwrite over them and then practice the letter in the blank space provided. Use light guidelines for lettering as used here.
