About this eBook

Preface As we had into the new millennium, understanding the concept of Biology and their connections to our environment is more important than ever. The exponential increase requires interdisciplinary and up to date information and their understanding. This book is an attempt to provide undergraduate students a basic understanding of latest advances in biotechnology, before they enter in the core technical specialization. There are three parts to this book I Introduction to Cell Biology II Advances in Biotechnology III Organisms, Their Environment and Its management .Part I It starts with the introduction to molecular basis of life, cell structure and its chemical constituents. The objective is to provide students an understanding of the very basic molecules of life-DNA, RNA, proteins and how these molecules, when form further complex molecules like carbohydrates, vitamins and lipids, then functioning of body takes place. Cell cycle, Physical structure of the cell, Cell Membrane, Cytoplasm and its Organelles Nucleus, Mitochondria, Golgi, Endoplasmic Reticulum, Lysosomes, Peroxisomes, Ribosomes, Chloroplasts will be discussed in this part. This part will also cover the transport of substances through the cell membrane, as it serves the basis of all the cellular mechanisms. Osmosis Diffusion and its types, Active transport and Passive transport, Membrane potential, Action Potential ECG, EEG, EMG . the understanding of application of biotechnological concepts used in our daily life like Gene Therapy, Stem cell and Nanobiomolecules and Bio Informatics, Biostatics. Part III Organisms, Their Environment and Its management- Ecosystem, Population Ecology, Population genetics, Environmental management-some environmental problems and measures to be taken to combat them. A number of books are available, however, majority of these do not have the entire information at one place. The aim of this book is to give students a vision as how their study, whether it is biotechnology or any stream of Engineering IT, Computer Sciences, Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Agriculture or Pharmacy can be made useful for risk, to save the environment, to survive in the pollutants or to increase the productivity specially when resources are depleting and many more. The present book covers a wide range of topics that involves recent developments in
extending from students, researchers and academicians up to industrialists.
