About this eBook

Preface The comprehensive practical training for any student studying soil science is must. Though many practical books are available in the market but this is an unique combination of protocols that covers entire practical of various Indian Universities for UG and PG courses in soil science. This book is written to meet the needs of students, technicians, teachers and researchers in soil science soil physics, soil chemistry, soil biology including enzymology . The book gives a comprehensive account of details of soil analysis. We trust that the book would be of interest to all persons interested in soil analysis either research institutions, industries or universities. While preparing this laboratory manual the efforts have been made into various aspects of laboratory practices for the beginners like points to remember, concepts and terminologies used, how to prepare the solutions reagents and calculations. The protocols given here have been tested by the authors during their long research and teaching experience. The principal of the analysis has been dealt and the detailed analysis approach is such that it will be easily followed. The book has been divided into five sections, the first one is soil sampling and processing. Second part is about soil physical analysis. The third part of the book is about soil chemical parameters followed by soil biological analysis and soil enzymes. At the end a rather comprehensive Appendix is given A to I . All the sections of the book have been written by authors who have long experience and are well versed with conducting practicals related to their expertise. Modern soil testing, in common with many other processes, is already making use of electronic instrumentation and microprocessors. However, in this book we have described the use of
manual observation and recording of data because we believe this is the only way to learn and understand the principles and procedures. Finally, we hope that this book will be well used, and we shall welcome comments or suggestions from those who use it. J.C. TARAFDAR B.K. YADAV
