About this eBook

PREFACE The Seven States of North-East India, the seven sisters as we call, have been blessed with bounty of nature and plethora of traditional culture and praxis. Any beautiful flower has got both soft petals as well as hard thorn. These beautiful States are reeling under the problem of unemployment, poverty and socio-political entropy. The reigning international borders, the migrating people, the erosion of traditional culture, the rippling of change in food, knowledge and agriculture in recent past have made the situation both unique and unparallel, having little of homogeneity in main stream life processes of India. This book has unmatchingly heralded the very crucial issues of transformation of the traditional agriculture, food and knowledge of three different north-east States together viz Mizoram. Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura in such way as one can have a faster but comprehensive look of this phenomenal changes. This book is the output of rigorous research work, extensive field survey and unique methodological approach organized by the authors, of which three scholars hailing from core of north-east States covered in this study have contributed tremendously through their down to earth experiences and su generic knowledge. We are of every belief that this creation would be of great help to the extension professional, social scientist, academics of anthropology and archaeology, management institutes, environmentalist, the scholars of sociology and development studies. The book has already been chapterized by following the order of agriculture, food and knowledge in terms of their tradition and how they are undergoing different change processes and change dynamics. This book with its great dawning, we hope, will provide a fillip to the scholastic mind both at home and abroad. Authors
