PREFACE The Indian Council of Agricultural Research ICAR , New Delhi, sanctioned a training programme on Advances in Production and Management of Rainfed Fruit Crops from 29th Oct. 2003 to 18th Nov. 2003 at Department of Horticulture, M.'A.U. Parbhani 431 402 M.S. . I am greatly indebted to the ICAR for the financial support extended to this University. I wish to express my sincere thanks to Respected . Dr. V.M. Pawar, Hon. Vice Chancellor, MAU, Parbhani who is the spirit behind this Winter School. Grateful acknowledgement is due to Dr. M.V. Dhoble, Director of Instruction and Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, MAU, Parbhani who has taken a lot of pains in guiding me for submission of the proposal and day to day help and guidance for smooth running of the Winter School. I am grateful to Dr. G.R. More, Director of Research and Dr. K.K. Zote, Director of Extension . Education, MAU, Parbhani for their help and guidance throughout the course of this Winter School. . The help and proper guidance from time to time received during the conduct of this Winter School from Shri R.V. RAKH, Comptroller, MAU Parbhani, is thankfully acknowledged, I am also thankful to the various State Agricultural Universities and ICAR Institutes for nominating Scientists and Teachers for attending this training programme. . I put on record the facilities and help received in field visits from Shri Shyam Gattani and his friends at Mehekar, Dist. Buldana 100 ha tamarind and Shri Narayanrao Mahanor and his team at Palaskheda, Dist. Aurangabad 200 ha custard apple . . I am also thankful to the invited speakers and lecturers from various SAUs who provided the core input for the training. The help provided by the staff members of this university and the Department of Horticulture, was also valuable, without which a successful conduct of the training would not have been possible. I deeply appreciate the other faculty members and supporting staff of Horticulture Department for their kind help and assistance in one or the other way. I am also thankful to the invited speakers and lecturers from this university who provided the core input for the training.
