About this eBook

Preface The textbook encompasses the upgraded standard of practical exercises for college level on Plant Taxonomy. Practical Taxonomy of Angiosperms has been designed in a modest way to present the subject in a systematic manner with well labeled diagrams and flow charts. This is my sincere effort to make this book more informative and useful by covering all important aspects of the subject from basic to exhaustive. The text is bunched into five chapters for making the study simpler. Chapter one comprises morphology of angiosperms where terminology used in taxonomic description of plants are arranged alphabetically, under subheads Stem, Leaves, Flowers etc. for convenience of students. Chapter two deals with taxonomy of angiosperms where principles of taxonomy, handling of an artificial key to a flora and diagnostic features of common angiospermic families have been recorded to facilitate easy learning of the subject. Chapter three contains description, systematization and identification of 84 plants of 44 families of angiosperms. A brief account of 143 plants of different families is also described. Chapter four encompasses comparison of allied common angiospermic families in tabular form. Chapter five deals with the economic importance of 106 familiar plants. Differences between allied terminology e.g. Phyllode, phylloclade, silqua, siliqula. are presented in tabular forms. Artificial key to the common families of angiosperms has also been appended. This is my sincere effort to simplify description and identification of plants in the field study and practical classes. Some important questions on viva voce are appended as ready reference. I hope the book will meet the requirements of undergraduate, postgraduate students and teachers of Botany Agriculture. Suggestions for improvement of book would be welcomed and duly acknowledged. R. K. Sinha
